Warm, cosy little restaurant...

Back in 2021 we got the chance to take over the restaurant, and these days Nel really feels like home. It’s a warm, cosy little place that’s all about good food, great wine and, most of all, a great night out together.

But Daisy and Nel go back much further. At 15, Daisy came in looking for a work placement as a waitress. The owner at the time, Irena, saw something in her and encouraged her to train as a chef and work in the kitchen instead. That turned out to be a brilliant move! Daisy stayed at Nel for several years before gaining experience at a number of other restaurants.

For Eva, hospitality was a whole new chapter. After twenty years working in intensive youth care, she swapped care for catering. Two very different worlds, but in the end they’re both about people, attention and making sure everyone feels welcome and at ease.

So what's Nel like today

It’s the kind of restaurant we love going out to ourselves. Relaxed and personal, with a table full of flavours. Daisy and her kitchen team cook with bold flavours and the odd unexpected twist. Eva and her colleagues take care of the rest: a good glass of wine and a warm welcome at your table.

You’ll find Nel in our beautiful historic building on the Verdronkenoord. Right in the heart of town, with the buzz of the city in the background. You can make a proper long evening of it with us, but what really matters is pretty simple: good food, good drinks and a great night together.

So why Nel, anyway?

We all know a Nel. That one person whose table you love to join, where there’s always something delicious on the go and good times just seem to happen. The kind of place where, at the end of the night, there’s really only one thing left to say:

“That was lovely again, Nel.”
